When soliciting questions for a recent mail bag, a common question that I asked was to list the upper number of first -round choices of the probable Eagles. So, ok, I thought it might be worth his own article. Here are my best six. Spoiler: they are all editors of defensive lines.
For this exercise, we will also refer to the “Big Board consensus” of athletics, which “combines the rankings of a wide range of NFL recovery experts to identify how the best prospects are seen compared to the rest of their class”.
1) Walter Nolen, Idl, Ole Miss | Consensus Big Board ranking: 18th
Nolan was formerly recruit n ° 1 in the country (via ESPN recruitment) which left high school. He is endowed with an extremely attractive mixture of power and speed, and although her production was disappointing at the start of her university career, she improved throughout and he was a disturbing force in 2024. He has fascinating features and a high advantage, and should not really be available 32, if we only look at his talent.
So why could it be available to 32? He has “character concerns”, which arise from the fact that he has attended five different schools in high school and college, which some see negatively.
Many teams that pick in the Top 10 of the 2023 draft should be embarrassed to have transmitted Jalen Carter because of his character concerns, and I think that the Eagles would be delighted if they had another chance of selecting a gifted IDL which fell because it has no perfect background.
2) James Pearce, Edge, Tennessee | Big Board consensus ranking: 21st
Pearce is a conventional speed rusher with a quick takeoff that can speed up around the edge, beat the offensive plated with interior meters or convert speed to power. He also went to the coverage on the occasion of the defense of Tennessee and did not seem out of words.
Lower, it is light at 243 pounds and could find it difficult to put the advantage at the NFL level. Of course, the last off -season, the Eagles signed Bryce Huff, a speeding rusher that leaves a lot to be desired as a race defender, and that did not work.
However, the editorial staff of a 21 -year -old child whose game can develop in this region is more logical than spending heavy resources for a guy who could not play the race in his fifth season of the NFL. But out of the box, Pearce should at least be a dangerous rusher of a situational pass which can add strength and perhaps become a reliable defender, just as Nolan Smith did during his second season.
By entering the 2024 university football season, most of the draft analysts had Pearce as the potential choice of the Top 10. But as with Nolen above, the ambiguous concerns of character – in the case of Pearce, training – pushed it to boards. The concerns of the character of Pearce seem a little more legitimate than those of Nolen.
3) Nic Scourton, Edge, Texas A&M | Big Board consensus ranking: 40th
Scourton is an agile player with effective cutting -edge movements, including his interior and outdoor towers. He is also a difficult defender against the race, with the engine and the jostling to hunt the races at the back. He makes sense as successor to Brandon Graham who would mainly play on the edge but has a certain versatility IDL on obvious passes.
Scourton is also the second largest player in this draft class, according to Dane Brugler of athletics. Eagles tend to write young perspectives with their first choices.
I would consider Scourton as a player likely to be available at Pick 32, and a pleasant option there. I would consider him something to select “security” in the first round.
4) Mykel Williams, Edge, Georgia | Consensus Big Board ranking: 15th
Williams has an exceptional power, speed and agility to go hand in hand with its long length at 6’5, 260, with 34 34 “weapons. He is also versatile, while he was arguing the whole defensive line of Georgia.
Like most of the defensive perspectives of Georgia in the first round, Williams’ bag numbers are not overwhelming (14 bags in 3 seasons), but he also played an ankle injury throughout the 2024 season. Williams plays the defense of the disciplined team, and it is a force in the rear field against the race. This only should earn him an immediate role in any defense. But he also has a lot of room to grow as rusher of passes when he continues to develop a Rush repertoire.
Williams is very little likely to be available to the choice n ° 32, but if he had to slip in the 1920s where there are a lot of logical partners, I could see the Eagles interested in mounting.
5) Donovan Ezeiruaku, Edge, Boston College | Consulting Consulting Culture: 22nd
Ezeiruaku finished second in the country in 2024 with 16.5 bags. It also has 80 plated (20 for the loss) and 3 forced escapes. It is a speed rusher that can turn the area and also win on the interior counters. In the pros, he will have to prove that he can put the advantage in the racing game if he wants to be a three -versed player, but he has rush chops to the pass, which should at least win an immediate role as a situational pass rusher.
6) Derrick Harmon, Idl, Oregon | Big Board consensus ranking: 30th
Harmon had a season in small groups in Oregon after the transfer of the state of Michigan. In 2024, he had 45 plated (11 for the loss), 5 bags, 2 forced escaped and 4 passes struck. It is fast, powerful, robust and has a good conscience during the race. It also has a versatility to play and down. Although he had only 8.5 career bags, his natural athletics will ultimately result in a better production of bags. I don’t like pressures as a statistics because it is so subjective, but it apparently directed the NCAA with 55 pressures.
