The sister of the star of the MLB Nelson Cruz dies in the collapse of the ceiling of the Dominican nightclub which also killed Octavio Dotel

Nelsy was a full -fledged local celebrity as governor of the province of Montecristi.

She was part of at least 44 people who died in the Jet Set nightclub – a group that also includes the former emergency launcher of the MLB Octavio Dotel as well as the man of the utility Tony Blanco. Meanwhile, 150 victims were reportedly hospitalized.

Dominican Minister of Culture Roberto Ángel Salcedo also confirmed Nelsy’s death on Tuesday.

Merengue singer Rubby Perez performed at the club early Tuesday morning when the roof collapsed. A cause of destruction was not revealed, but the owner of the club declared in an online statement that he and his team cooperate fully and in a transparent manner with the competent authorities to help the victims and clarify what happened. “

Juan Manuel Méndez, the director of emergency management operations of the Dominican Republic, underlined Tuesday that much more work was to be done before a complete measure of the damage could be caused.

He also hopes that rescuers will always be able to find survivors.

“We are still working, looking for people in the rubble,” said Mendez. “We assume that many of them are still alive, which is why the authorities here with their teams will not stop before finding the last person in these rubble.”

Earlier Tuesday, Dotel was reported as having been saved from rubble after having shouted for help. But the Dominican newspaper Diario Libre said that Dotel had arrived at the Central Hospital of the Armed Forces without vital signs and that he was then declared dead.

Dotel, who won a world series with the Cardinals of Saint-Louis in 2011, was heard shouting to obtain help from the first stakeholders, according to the Dominican Supercunal television.

“The death of the former Baseball League player, Octavio Dote has been confirmed,” wrote the publication in an update on X.
