The sidekick, the boys, the dragon’s house, the bear, everything in June

It’s June and you’re going to have to buckle in for what will undoubtedly be the craziest TV streaming time of the entire year.

In 23 days total, there are four hit series premieres and you’ll want to know the release dates for each one, considering you’re about to drown yourself in quality shows (all of which I’ll cover here). We have:

The Acolyte Season 1 (Disney Plus) – Release date: June 4 – This is the latest Disney Plus Star Wars entry, but disconnected from any major timelines we usually see based close to the OG trilogy, or perhaps a few decades before or after. It’s the new era of Disney’s High Republic and the series reportedly cost $180 million for its eight episodes. It doesn’t appear to be being touted as a limited series, so it could be given the green light for multiple seasons. It arrives with a double episode premiere, then will be weekly thereafter.

The Boys Season 4 (Amazon Prime Video) – Release date: June 13 – Amazon is going to keep this series going as long as possible with season 5 already on the way and its showrunner saying it may last longer than he initially envisioned. We also have Gen V, its spin-off which returns for season 2 in some time (although it will be heavily reworked after the tragic death of star Chance Perdomo) and The Boys: Mexico which arrives at an unspecified time in the future. Season 4 of The Boys will begin with a three episode premiere before running for eight episodes in total, ending in mid-July.

House of the Dragon Season 2 (Max) – Release date: June 16 — HBO may no longer have to rely on Game of Thrones, but “Max” has found another hit in the form of House of the Dragon, the Targaryen prequel that returns after a stunning finale. It’s based on the source material by George RR Martin, but it’s unclear how long it’s meant to last and there are at least two other Thrones spin-offs in the pipeline, so there will be no shortage of content from that world. Season 2 will begin with a single episode and will air weekly from there.

The Bear Season 3 (FX/Hulu) – Release date: June 27 – The Bear is a miracle of modern TV releases, not only because it’s so good and buried in the Emmys, but because this third season arrives exactly one year after season 2, which arrived exactly one year after the season 1. Yes, that’s how TV shows used to work, but it became beyond the norm for shows to last 18 months to 2+ years between seasons, but The Bear cut that down down to a science even with full seasons of 10 episodes. Like the other two seasons, it will come out all at once as a binge watch, the only one of these four shows to do so. Expect more Emmys to follow.

I told you, it’s a busy month. I don’t even know which of these shows I’m looking forward to the most. The bear, probably. Maybe The Boys next. I just don’t know how The Acolyte will turn out, but I’ve heard good things. We’ll know soon enough!
