An assistant from the Sheriff of the County of San Diego escaped with only cuts in hand after being attacked by an inmate with a makeshift knife at the San Diego Superior Justice Palace on Friday.
Investigators said the incident had been reported around 9 a.m. while an inmate, who had just finished appearance in court, was transferred from a detention cell to be brought back to Vista prison, the SGT. Shane Burt said.
When a deputy opened the door of the detention cell, the detainee threw himself down while brandishing a makeshift knife, said Burt. The deputy was able to repel the attack and hold the man before the arrival of the backup.
A photo provided by the managers of the sheriff’s weapon shows an object of 4 inch, apparently linked to the string.
The deputy was treated on the scene for non -fatal injuries, and the detainee was taken to the hospital with a small cut at the top of his head.
The detainee was then arrested for suspicion of attempted murder of a peace agent and possession of a weapon in prison.
