In January, Serbian Prime Minister Miloš Vučević offered his resignation in the midst of public indignation and demonstrations at the national level following the collapse of a trains and a bus station recently renovated in Novi Sad in November, who killed 15 people.

His resignation, to be confirmed by the Parliament, could not lead the country to new elections only more than a year after the holding of the last, if the Progressive Party Serbian in power does not provide a new candidate for the Prime Minister, who must be approved by a vote of the Parliament.

The manifestations demanding the responsibility of the tragedy in Novi Sad have since spread to every corner of Serbia and are widely led by students who have abandoned their courses and occupied the universities of the country.

Largely considered to be the biggest manifestations in the history of Serbia, hundreds of thousands of demonstrators meet almost daily and often block the country’s main roads and arteries.
