- Radar screens were dark early Friday in an aerial installation that guides planes around Newark.
- The 90 -second breakdown has been the second since April.
- This aggravates Newark’s operational problems involving the weather, ATC problems and the construction of the track.
Problems continue to accumulate at Newark Liberty International Airport.
The Federal Aviation Administration said that a failure of air traffic control equipment with the ease of approach control of Philadelphia, which guides planes inside and outside Newark, occurred around 3:55 on Friday morning.
The agency said it has affected communications and radar screens for “around 90 seconds”.
This is the second failure of the installation since April 28, when the screens were dark for 60 to 90 seconds and prevented the controllers from talking to planes.
The problems, associated with the weather conditions and the driving of the pillars, caused hundreds of delays and cancellations to the airport for almost two weeks.
United CEO, Scott Kirby, called on the government to designate Newark as a “level 3” airport. This would mean that it would work on a slot system that limits the number of planes that can take off and land at times to manage capacity.
The airline, which holds the largest market share in Newark, has already suspended 35 daily flights to deal with overcapacity and the composition of air traffic problems.
It is a story in development. Come back for updates.
