San Diego police officer who pulled and injured a man was reportedly armed with Pacific Beach ax was identified on Wednesday.
Officer Dominic Bloemendaal, a veteran of the seven -year department assigned to the northern division unit, killed William John Hanley, 53, who brandished a weapon inside the Pacific Beach library, said the Board of San Diego Sheriff in a statement.
The Sheriff’s office is investigating the shooting in the context of a county level which prevents agencies from investigating their own fire.
San Diego police responded to the library on Cass avenue concerning the reports of a man causing a disturbance in the library and vandalizing goods.
Police located Hanley on rue Dawes nearby, where he held an object that looked like an ax. The police ordered Hanley to drop the object, but he did not comply, said sheriff’s investigators.
BloeMendaal pulled his weapon several times, injuring him. He should survive, said the sheriff’s office.
Hanley was hospitalized and Tuesday was reserved in the central prison for many accusations, including assault with a deadly weapon, an arrest and a criminal vandalism.
The incident is the sixth shooter of the San Diego police in 2025 and the first which was not deadly.
