MacbethWilliam Shakespeare’s iconic play, is reimagined as an interactive video game with a neo-noir vibe – and it’s being developed in part by the Royal Shakespeare Company. The game, titled Lilyis a “thriller video game about life on screen” in which you’ll have access to the personal devices of a modern-day Lady Macbeth, according to a press release.
“Players will be immersed in a stylized, neo-noir vision of modern Iran, where surveillance and authoritarianism are part of everyday life,” the statement said. “Gameplay will feature a blend of live-action cinema in an interactive gaming format, giving players the opportunity to immerse themselves in the world of Lady Macbeth and make choices that will influence her destiny.” It looks a bit like a version of Macbeth inspired by Sam Barlow’s interactive thrillers.
The Royal Shakespeare Company is making the game in collaboration with iNK Stories, an independent studio and publisher based in New York who also made Revolution of 1979: Black Friday. It stars Zar Amir as “Lady Macbeth (Lili),” according to the press release.
Lily is expected to be released “later in 2025”.
