The Boston Red Sox are not the only team to work to improve their pitching staff during the offseason, the rival of the Toronto Blue Jays signed division withdrawn a notable name on the free agency market on Thursday evening.
Toronto signed Eight times All-Star and the triple winner of the Cy Young Award Max Scherzer to a one-year contract, $ 15.5 million, according to Jeff Passan d’Espn, after the club expressed his interest for several weeks. Scherzer will have 41 years by the end of July and joined the Blue Jays after a two -year race with the Texas Rangers.
Scherzer, a future inducted at the fame temple, has spent the last two seasons to fight to stay healthy. The right -hander made eight departures with the Rangers in 2023 before undergoing a low grade end of the season strain, and made nine departures in 2024 due to shoulder fatigue. Scherzer ended last season by going 2-4 with an MPM of 3.95, but did not take the mound until June 23 – he recovered from an off -season surgery.
It is not a signature of blockbuster by any section while Scherzer approaches the end of his illustrious big league career, but it is always a victory for the Toronto.
The Blue Jays have passed the entire offseason to get involved in activities for first caliber – and missing free agents. They continued Juan Soto, Max Fried, Corbin Burnes and Roki Sasaki, but had nothing to show. It was not until January that Toronto won a remarkable free agent and signed Anthony Santander to a $ 92.5 million contract over five years.

Scherzer is obviously not the starter of 18 wins and more than he was in the past with the Nationals of Detroit Tigers and Washington, but that does not completely devalue the addition.
The Toronto pitch staff led the American League to Home Runs (208) went last season, ranked 12th in walks (503) and 24th in total of the stick withdrawals (1,314). If the figures do not tell the story, the continuation of the front office for almost all the large free agents should explain the disastrous need for the depth of pitching the franchise.
The addition of Scherzer to the mixture could help the trio of Kevin Gausman, Jose Berrios and Chris Bassitt Starter to recover the team after the 2024 race 74-88. The Blue Jays did not win a new series in new years while Scherzer is removed two years from the victory of the World Series with the Rangers.
It would be an exaggeration to consider Scherzer as a signature altering at 40, however, perhaps the presence and influence of generational talent in the Toronto clubhouse could take out the team from the bottom of the division.

Scherzer recorded a 216-112 career record with an MPM of 3.16 and 3,407 stick withdrawals, making the 17-year-old veteran a soon from the Hall of Famer of the first Ballot.
