President Trump’s porcelain prices threaten Christmas.
Toy manufacturers, children’s stores and specialized retailers take a break for winter holidays while cascade import taxes via supply chains. The factories in China produce almost 80% of all toys and 90% of Christmas products sold in America.
The production of toys, Christmas trees and decorations are generally in full swing. It takes four to five months to manufacture, pack and ship products to the United States.
Mr. Trump’s 145% tariffs caused a drastic cost increase for American companies. Most of the entrepreneurs who have shared their plans with the New York Times have not yet canceled their orders. They hope that the president will reproduce the tariff gap.
But the alarm in the industry is palpable, companies predicting products of products and higher prices. Some business owners, citing how crucial holidays are for their results, consult the bankruptcy lawyers.
“We have a frozen supply chain that endangers Christmas,” said Greg Ahearn, director general of the Toy Association, a group of American industry representing 850 toy manufacturers. “If we do not start production soon, there is a high probability of shortage of toys during this holiday season.”
