The insatiable quest for Disney to exploit its own intellectual property continues with this live remake of an animated film which was created only 23 years ago. But hey, it’s enough time for a new generation of potential fans to be born while explaining the nostalgia for those who grew up not only watching not only the original film, but also its three direct video suites and three television series.
Creative, there is no real reason for this version of Lilo & Stitch Exist, especially since the version of Stitch’s film is necessarily animated also. But commercially, it is a whole different case, assuming that Trump’s prices do not prevent toy stores from being fully equipped with the plush version which will be on the list of wishes for many children for Santa Claus.

Directed by Dean Fleischer Camp, according to the tradition of independent filmmakers (Marcel the shell with shoes on) Graduated in big budget leagues (this film cost $ 100 million), live action Lilo & Stitch is fairly faithful to the original to please traditionalists and has been changed enough to feel a little cool. The most notable change is the emotional supply of the relationship between the Hawaiian orphan Lilo, 6, (Maia Kealoha, bringing a real heart and a sparkling personality to the role) and its older sister, Nani (Sydney Elizabeth Agudong), which has trouble maintaining its tutor in the midst of the financial difficulties and the rebellious behavior of Lilo.
The story begins with a sequence established on a planet led by the Galactic Federation United and its chief, the great councilor (Hannah Waddingham, just as imposing in a animated form as in real life), with the kind of animation CGI ugide which makes you appear human actors. This is where we are presented to Stitch (expressed by Chris Sanders, taking up his role of the original), a genetically modified and genetically modified creature created by the crazy scientist Dr. Jubiba (Zach Galifianakis).
Threatened with exile, Stitch manages to escape and end on earth – Hawaii, to be precise – where he is chased by Jumba and Agent Pleakley (Billy Magnussen), who is assigned to the Riding Hood. Shortly after his arrival, the duo manages to assume the human form, offering the two actors the possibility of presenting their considerable physical comedy skills while their characters awkwardly adapt to their new bodies.
Meanwhile, the very blue koala point ends in an animal refuge, where it is surprisingly confused with a dog (one of the gags of the film) and is adopted by Lilo. The adorable but exuberant little girl and the creature take on a difficult start, not helped by the latter’s propensity to wreak havoc wherever it goes. But their link continues to deepen as she teaches her, wait for: “Ohana means the family”.
Along the way, there are enough Madcap events, rapid rhythm proceedings and dangerous situations to win the film’s operating time at 108 minutes from the original PEPPY 85. For adults, a little visual chaos will go far, with a point, cute that it is, not exactly and in terms of call.
But young viewers should eat everything, and those who are weaned on the original film will appreciate the numerous remittals, including the support turns of Tia Carrere, which expressed Nani in the original, and Jason Scott Lee, who expressed his friend of Nani David (here played by Kaipo Dudit). There are also several new characters, such as David’s fiery grandmother (a funny Amy Hill, another veteran of the franchise) and Cobra Bubbles (Courtney B. Vance), a federal agent trying to find Stitch. (And yes, the name of the character is a reminder for the social worker in the original.)
In the two incarnations, Lilo & Stitch is not in the first row of films from the Disney family, as evidenced by the fact that this remake had to go directly to the broadcast. But that should hardly import, this version likely to clean at the box office at the start of the busy summer season.
