Derek Carr’s retirement leaves the saints with three-quarters, which have a combined record of 0-7 as starters of the NFL, on their list.
The selected last year are the choice of fifth round in 2024 Spencer Rattle and the choice of fourth round in 2023 Jake Haener. When Carr has missed time with injuries last season, Rattler started six games and Haener started one. The saints went 0-7 in these games, with Rattler and Haener with an average of 5.8 yards per pass.
The newcomer is the second -round recruit, Tyler Shough, who is 25 years old after a long university career which saw him spend three years in Oregon, three years at Texas Tech and a year in Louisville. The saints knew that Carr had a significant injury to his shoulder when they wrote Shough, which suggests that they see Shuch as the heir to Carr.
Taysom Hill is listed as a tight end on the list of saints, but is in fact their most experienced quarterrier in the NFL, with a career record of 7-2 as a starter and a statistical line of 193 completions on 302 attempts, for 2,369 yards with 11 affected and nine interceptions. Hill has more victories, supplements, attempts, yards and affected in his NFL career than three -quarters of the combined list.
It remains to be seen if the saints bring another quarter-back, but for the moment, they seem ready for a three-way training camp competition.
