The recording of the original distribution of HamiltonThe Minecraft video game score and a 1970 album marked by Miles Davis are among the last 25 additions to the National Registration Register.
Created in 2000 by the Congress Library to help draw attention to its preservation efforts, the register now contains 675 titles. The other additions of this year include albums of popular artists such as Elton John, Tracy Chapman, Mary J. Blige and Amy Winehouse, as well as a historic program of the World Series of 1960, a recording of the legend of the Comedy Insulture Don Rickles, songs of Japanese American workers who have transformed the sugar cane that goes into Hawaiian plantations, and Popular singles in the madness of genres, country, ranchera and R&B.
Another notable inclusion? The 1995 Microsoft Windows Reboot Reboot Chime. Composed by Brian Eno, the chime was almost twice as long as what Microsoft designers had initially considered. But he captured a feeling of “welcome, hope and progress” that they wanted to transmit to users of inexperienced computers by starting Windows 95.
“These are the sounds of America – our vast story and our culture. The register of national recordings is the reading list of our evolving nation,” said the librarian of Congress Carla Hayden in a press release. “The Congress Library is proud and honored to select these audio treasures worthy of preservation, including emblematic music in a variety of genres, field recordings, the history of sport and even the sounds of our daily life with technology.”
The oldest recording on this year’s list is from 1913. “Aloha ‘work” was composed by Princess Lili’uokalani (who later became the Queen of Hawai’i). The song had been loved in Hawai’i for decades before being settled by the wax by the Hawaiian quintet.

Listening to these recordings, returning until the turn of the century, at the start of the sound recorded so far, is to hear points in a chronology, on a journey in time.
