The Real Martha from Baby Reindeer Slams Netflix in Interview with Piers Morgan

Baby reindeerThe Real Life of Martha called the Netflix series an “obscene” and “defamatory” work of fiction, saying it was asking lawyers to sue the streamer.

In an interview with Piers Morgan (full video below), Scottish lawyer Fiona Harvey said she was “forced” to tell her side of the story after Baby reindeer became a huge worldwide success.

Baby reindeer was billed as a “true story” and provides an extremely raw account of comedian Richard Gadd’s experience with an alleged stalker, known as Martha.

But Harvey told Morgan it was a “work of hyperbole” and a “work of fiction” and claimed she was prepared to test her argument in court.

Netflix stayed there Baby reindeer On Wednesday, the tragedy was a “true story” and it took “all reasonable precautions to conceal the real identity of those involved”.

Internet sleuths identified Harvey days after the series debuted and she said the experience made her life difficult, including saying she received death threats and phone calls from strangers.

“I find it quite obscene. I find it horrible, misogynistic. There have been some truly terrible death threats online. People are calling me. You know, it’s been absolutely horrible,” she said.

Harvey added that Netflix had not contacted her before Baby reindeer premiered globally last month and she agreed with Morgan that the series raised questions about duty of care.

In the forensic interview, Harvey stated that she was never charged or sentenced to prison for stalking (as shown in the latest episode), that she did not send Gadd 41 000 emails or contacted her parents, and that she had never heckled Gadd at stand-up gigs.

She denied leaving voicemails for Gadd and alleged she may have been illegally recorded meeting the writer at the pub he worked at. She also denied assaulting Gadd’s former girlfriend and said she did not sexually assault Gadd on a canal path.

Harvey admitted she met Gadd in a London pub, but said she had only seen him “five (or) six times” in her life. She admitted to sending him “joking emails.”

“There are two true facts in this (show). His name is Richard Gadd and he works as a bartender with benefits at Hawley Arms,” she said.

Harvey claimed she didn’t watch Baby reindeerr, but argued that Gadd was “completely crazy” and questioned his mental well-being.

“He’s lying and they (Netflix) are lying,” Harvey told Morgan. “They presented it as a true story, just like him, but it’s not. This is clearly not the case. In a message to Gadd, she added: “Please leave me alone. »

Netflix has been contacted for comment. Benjamin King, Netflix UK’s senior director of public policy, said on Wednesday that the streamer could not control speculation on social media and was not prepared to censor Gadd.

“Personally, I would not be comfortable in a world in which we decided that it would be better for Richard to be silenced and not allowed to tell his story,” he said during a hearing in the British Parliament.

Baby reindeer launched on Netflix without much fanfare, but blew up on the streamer, amassing nearly 54 million views since its April 11 launch. It was Netflix’s top English-language series for three weeks in a row.
