The rare 3-1 defeat of Liverpool by Chelsea felt like an exhibition match for fans of the Reds … But this is why it counted in the rescue brigade in difficulty of Arne Slot, writes Lewis Steele

Most of those of a red persuasion at Stamford Bridge, it looked like an exhibition match.

Liverpool was poor, but no one seemed to worry too much, certainly not the external end where the balloons were selected by spelling the word “ champions ” and they crossed their whole book of songs for toast their heroes on the ground.

The men of Arne Slot had traveled in Run Runcorn in London on Saturday and after a few poor quality touches and capricious passes, we wondered if they had landed in the capital and went in front of the Euston tap to start a night on the tiles.

It was therefore a very changed XI, which probably counts as a secondary factor on the disjointed screen of Liverpool, especially at the first hour. Elliott, Quansah, Endo and Tsimikas are all confronted with an uncertain future, just like Darwin Nunez and Federico Chiesa who came out of the bench.

It is therefore fair to say that they were fighting either to show the location that they can make them important players in Liverpool … or to add to their market value if they want to spend this summer. A win-win for the club, really.

Elliott said with his desire to fight for his career as Liverpool and said that it was `my club ”, but the fact that he must wait for the match 35 to make his first league at the start of the campaign is disappointing for a player who promised so much pre-season.

A broken foot suffered on England under the age of 21 has derailed a large part of its campaign and the slot machine admitted that Elliott was the shadow of his old self confident after the layoff.

He had beautiful touches here, but will have to do more to make sure that the hierarchy of Liverpool reaches a firm conclusion that he certainly did not leave.

The same verdict can be reached on Quansah, which did not have the chance to concede its own goal, then to be sewn by a bad pass which led him to give a penalty. Apart from that, it was a strong performance by the young Englishman.

So, although this game, this result or the screen is not at all important for most Liverpool fans, it was a chance to shine for the rescue brigade. A big summer awaits you on the transfer market and, in many cases, players are fighting to prove to the location they can contribute next season.

None of them passed with flying colors – but they have not failed either and will be likely in the coming weeks.
