The quarter of the University of Tulane, TJ Finley, was suspended from the school football program after being reserved on Wednesday with possession of stolen goods of more than $ 25,000.
Finley, 23, was arrested by Tulane police in South Claiborne Avenue Bloc 6300, according to a spokesperson for the New Orleans Police Service.
Judicial files show that Finley’s arrest is linked to a stolen car, WVUE-TV reported.
“We are aware of a situation involving TJ Finley,” said Tulane officials in a prepared statement. “He was suspended from the football program pending the outcome of the case.”
University officials have said that they would not disclose additional information on allegations due to federal laws on students’ privacy, including information on disciplinary procedures. The NOPD said the investigation was underway.
Finley, whose full name is Tyler Jamal Finley, made a first appearance before the court of first instance of the Orleans parish on Wednesday and was planned for a hearing on June 1, according to the judicial archives.
He was released from his own commitment, according to the judicial archives.
Lawyer David Courcelle represents Finley, according to the file. Courcelle did not immediately return a call asking for a comment.
A graduate of the Ponchatoula high school, Finley previously played for LSU, University of Auburn, Texas State University and Western Kentucky University before transferring to Tulane in December 2024.
