Potstown, Pennsylvania – Heads of the county of Montgomery confirmed that a police officer had been shot in the Potstown borough on Sunday evening following an accident of two cars. The suspect has now been detained.
Montgomery County Da published a statement on Sunday at night saying: saying:
“The refuge in place has been lifted. The presence of the police on the scene will be reduced to alcohol when the incident enters the investigation phase.”
On Sunday, just after 5:00 p.m., the Ministry of Public Security received a call at 911 reporting a car accident involving two vehicles around Beech Street and N. MT. Vernon Street in Potstown Borough, according to officials.
At the scene around 6:00 p.m., the police had trouble with one of the occupants of the car while trying to look for a firearm in the car, according to the DA office.
The suspect, a man, fled to his residence on Winding Road, according to the police. Once there, the man fired on officers, hitting one of the shoulder officers, report the officials.
The DA office indicates that the officer was taken to a neighboring hospital for injuries not putting his life in danger. The officer is in a stable state, according to the DA.
69 Press journalist Jack Reinhard spoke with a neighbor, who says she was at home at the time.
“My dog and I were sitting on my sofa and we heard three shots,” said Samantha Wintrsten.
The authorities say the police were a fire, but did not hit the suspect.
The officials say that the officer was transported to the hospital on the ambulance and would be in a stable state.
Many units for applying the law surrounded a house on Winding Road in the Potstown borough, according to the press release. The police used drones as part of the operation, the public and the media were invited to keep drones and helicopters from the scene away.
The police were seen packing their weapons, but the winding road remained closed until 11 p.m. around 11 p.m.
Officials told residents in the immediate Winding Road area that they should be sheltered. The shelter in place was lifted shortly before 11 p.m.
