LOS Angeles (AP) – Tensions in Los Angeles intensified on Sunday while thousands of demonstrators went down the street in response to the extraordinary deployment of President Donald Trump of the National Guard, blocking a major highway and set fire to autonomous cars as appliance with the law used tear gas, rubber balls and flash frosts to control The crowd.

Many demonstrators dispersed in the evening and the police declared an illegal assembly, a pioneer from the police officers who move in and carried out people who do not leave. Some of those who remain threw objects from the police behind a makeshift barrier that lasted the width of a street and others have launched pieces of concrete, rocks, electric scooters and fireworks to Californian motorways and their vehicles parked on the Fermeway Freeway in southern 101.

Sunday demonstrations in Los Angeles, a sprawling city of 4 million people, were centered in several houses in the city center. It was the third and most intense day of demonstrations against the repression of Trump’s immigration in the region, while the arrival of around 300 guard troops stimulated anger and fear among many residents.

The goalkeeper was specifically deployed to protect federal buildings, including the city center detention center where demonstrators have concentrated.

Los Angeles police chief Jim McDonnell said the police were “overwhelmed” by other demonstrators. He said they understood regular agitators who arise during demonstrations to cause problems.

Several dozen people were arrested throughout the protest weekend. One was arrested on Sunday for launching a Molotov cocktail to the police, and another for hitting a motorcycle in a line of officers.

Trump responded to McDonnell on Truth Social, telling him to stop the demonstrators in the facial masks.

“Having really hurt the troops !!!” He wrote.

The clashes degenerate as the troops of the National Guard arrive

From the morning, the troops stood in the shoulder to the shoulder, transporting long cannons and anti-riot shields while the demonstrators shouted “shame” and “go home”. After some approached the members of the guard, another set of uniform officers progressed on the group, shooting on smoke in the street.

A few minutes later, the Los Angeles police department pulled tours of the crowd control ammunition to disperse the demonstrators, who, according to them, were assembled illegally. A large part of the group then moved to block traffic on Highway 101 until the officers of the State patrol eliminated them from the road at the end of the afternoon.

Nearby, at least four autonomous Waymo cars were burnt down, sending large plumes of black smoke in the sky and exploding intermittently while electric vehicles burned. In the evening, the police had issued an illegal assembly prescription closing several houses in downtown Los Angeles.

Flash Bangs resounded every few seconds in the evening.

The governor says that the guard is not necessary

Democratic Governor Gavin Newsom asked Trump to withdraw members of the guard in a letter Sunday afternoon, qualifying their deployment as “serious violation of state sovereignty”. He met Los Angeles with local police and civil servants.

The deployment seemed to be the first time in decades that the national guard of a state was activated without demand from its governor, a significant escalation against those who sought to hinder the Mass deportation of the administration efforts.

The mayor of Newsom and Los Angeles, Karen Bass, blamed the increasingly aggressive protests of Trump’s decision to deploy the goalkeeper, calling him a decision designed to develop tensions. They both urged the demonstrators to remain peaceful.

“What we see in Los Angeles is chaos that is provoked by the administration,” she said at a press conference in the afternoon. “This is another program, it is not public security.”

But McDonnell, the chief of the LAPD, said that the demonstrations were following a similar model for the episodes of civil disorders, things accelerating in the second and third days.

He postponed the allegations of the Trump administration according to which the LAPD had not helped the federal authorities when demonstrations broke out Friday after a series of immigration raids. His department responded as quickly as possible, and had not been informed before the raids and was therefore not pre-positioned for the demonstrations, he said.

Newsom, on the other hand, said on several occasions that the Californian authorities had under control the situation. He made fun of Trump for publishing a message of congratulations to the custody on social networks even before the troops arrived in Los Angeles, and declared on MSNBC that Trump never deployed the goalkeeper during a phone call on Friday. He called Trump as a “cold stone liar”.

Warnings have not dissuaded the administration.

“It’s a bald lie for Newsom to claim that there was no problem in Los Angeles before President Trump gets involved,” said White House spokesman Abigail Jackson in a statement.

The deployment follows on protest days

The arrival of the National Guard followed two days of demonstrations which began Friday in downtown Los Angeles before spreading Saturday in Paramount, a strongly Latin city south of the city, and Neighboring Compton.

Federal agents arrested immigrants in the Los Angeles fashion district, in a Home Depot parking lot and in several other places on Friday. The next day, they organized an organization in an office in the Department of Internal Security near another Home deposit in Paramount, which fired demonstrators who suspected another raid. Federal authorities later said that there was no application activity in this home deposit.

The one week’s statement of immigrant arrests in the Los Angeles region exceeded 100, the federal authorities said. Many others were arrested while protested, including an eminent union leader who was accused of hampering the police.

The demonstrations did not reach the size of the past demonstrations which brought the national guard to Los Angeles, including the Watts And Rodney King riots, And the 2020 demonstrations against police violence, in which Newsom asked for help from the federal troops.

The last time the National Guard was activated without the authorization of a governor, it was in 1965, when President Lyndon B. Johnson sent troops to protect a march of civil rights in Alabama, according to the Brennan Center for Justice.

Trump says there will be a very strong smell ” ‘

In a directive Trump invoked a legal provision allowing him to deploy federal soldiers on Saturday when there is a “rebellion or a danger of rebellion against the authority of the United States government”.

He said he had authorized the deployment of 2,000 members of the National Guard.

Trump told journalists when he was preparing to get on the Air Force One in Morristown, New Jersey on Sunday that there were “violent people” in Los Angeles “and they won’t get away.”

Asked if he planned to send us troops in Los AngelesTrump replied: “We are going to have troops everywhere. We are not going to let it happen to our country.” He did not develop.

About 500 navies stationed at Twentynine Palms, around 125 miles (200 kilometers) east of Los Angeles were in a “deployment status” on Sunday afternoon, according to the US Northern Command.
