Kobbie Mainoo is in the running to return for the Old Trafford derby Sunday after two months of exceeding the action, confirmed the boss of Manchester United, Ruben Amorim.
However, Matthijs de Ligt is a doubt after having taken a hit in Tuesday’s defeat against Nottingham Forest at City Ground.
Mainoo has been sidelined since the afforestation of the FA Cup victory against Leicester City to Old Trafford in early February.
But Amorim said: “I think Kobbie returns to training, so we will see and evaluate it for this game. He cannot play a full game.
“I think Matthijs is a problem, he has something in the game (forest) and we have to assess.”
Mason Mount has returned from the forest bench after three and a half months since he was injured in the last Manchester derby at Etihad in mid-December, but Amorim is prudent to overload a player whose united career has been prey to fitness problems.

He added: “It is better not to talk about it too much. Let Mason Mount train several times, obtaining the load in his body and forget that because the mind is sometimes more important than the body. He can start but we must still manage his minutes.
Amorim will resist the temptation to rotate his team before next Thursday’s trip to Lyon in the quarter -final of the Europa League which represents United’s last chance of a trophy this season as well as the opportunity to return to the Champions League.
“We are going to concentrate the game per game,” he said. “We have a few to get back from the last match, then an accent in this department will be the next League.
“We want to win this match, we want to improve in the League table and above all we want to win matches.”
