The president of the Federal Communications Commission said on Friday that he had opened an investigation into the Disney diversity, equity and inclusion programs in the Trump’s last attempt to stop these efforts.
In a letter to Robert A. Iger, Disney CEO, Brendan Carr, the president, said that business programs to increase the diversity of hiring and promote affinity groups based on breed seemed to violate equal regulations on the chances of employment.
“I want to make sure that Disney puts an end to all the discriminatory initiatives in substance, not just the name,” said Carr in the letter, which was sent on Thursday. “For another, I want to determine whether Disney actions – whether in progress or recently completed – compared at any time with applicable FCC regulations.”
A Disney spokesperson said the company examined the FCC letter. “We are impatient to engage with the commission to answer his questions.”
Carr, a veteran republican regulator, began his mandate as president of the FCC in January by starting a sweeping campaign to examine the media, trying to eliminate the allegations of prejudices and left -wing policies despised by the president.
Last month, he began a similar survey of diversity and inclusion on Comcast, the parent company of Nbcuniversal. Carr also said that the merger examinations undertaken by the agency will now include investigations into companies’ programs.
