Phoenix (AP)-The president of the National Democratic Committee, Ken Martin, said Thursday that party officers should be prohibited from taking sides in the primaries, in the background of the DNC vice-president, David Hogg, of raising funds for candidates calling into question Democrats.
Martin’s proposal degenerates a public quarrel between the new boss of the DNC and Hogg, who has gotten importance as a defender of firearms after having survived the shooting of the 2018 school in Parkland, Florida. Both were elected by DNC members earlier this year.
Martin said he was writing changes in regulations proposed to demand that the officers remain neutral in all democratic primaries.
Martin said that party neutrality is crucial to maintaining the confidence of voters, stressing the bitter quarrel that emerged after supporters of the 2016 campaign of Senator Bernie Sanders thought that he had been blocked by the party initiates who put their thumbs up to the scale in favor of Hillary Clinton, who won the appointment, but lost the general elections to Donald Trump.
“You cannot be the player and the referee,” wrote Martin in an opinion article published by Time.
HOGG said that it would collect millions of dollars through a political action committee not affiliated with the DNC to support the main challengers against long -standing holders in firmly democratic congresses. He says that the party needs a reshuffle to bring leaders who will more aggressively face Trump and connect with young voters.
HOGG declared in a press release published on social networks that it does not break any current DNC rule, and that its actions do not interfere with party responsibilities, in particular by fixing a calendar of presidential appointment, by supporting the democratic parties of the State, by creating a data infrastructure and by creating the campaign infrastructure for a future candidate for the Democratic presidential election.
Voters do not consider Democrats as a “real alternative to the Republican Party,” he said.
“This will not change if we keep the status quo,” said Hogg. “We have no choice but to do the hard work to take us and take us into account.”
Also on Thursday, Martin said that the DNC would increase its financial support for state democratic parties from $ 5,000 to $ 17,500 per month, with an additional $ 5,000 per month for the states led by the Republicans.
