Congolese President Félix Tshisekedi has promised to restore government authority to the east, where the M23 rebels supported by Rwanda took control of the city of Goma and would have progressed south to take more territory.
In a television address at the nation, he said that “vigorous and coordinated response” against what he called “terrorists” was underway.
He criticized the international community for “inaction” and not to do enough after the climbing of the security crisis.
The offensive of several weeks by the rebels aroused warnings from an imminent humanitarian crisis and increasing international pressure to end the fighting.
During the address of Wednesday evening, Tshisekedi joined all the Congolese to meet and support the fight of the army to regain control.
“”Make sure one thing: the Democratic Republic of the Congo will not be humiliated or crushed. We will fight and triumph, “he said.
The fighting forced around 500,000 people at home, aggravating an already disastrous humanitarian crisis, according to the UN.

Eastern African leaders have also called a joint summit of the block and managers of the Southern African Regional Community (SADC) to “deliberate on the way to follow”. Dr. Congo is a member of the Eastern African and SADC community.
Tshisekedi paid tribute to SADC soldiers “fighting next to us” and the UN forces who died following the rebel assault on Goma.
Thirteen South African peacekeepers were killed in the fatal conflict in Goma, leading to increased tensions between South Africa and Rwanda.
Wednesday evening, Kagame said that Rwanda was ready for a confrontation with South Africa if necessary, following a complaint by South African President Cyril Ramaphosa that the M23 fighters and Rwandan forces were responsible for death.
In a strongly written statement, responding directly to Ramaphosa on X, Kagame accused him of distorting their private conversations on the volatile situation.
“If South Africa wants to contribute to peaceful solutions, it is good and good, but South Africa is not able to play the role of peacemaker or mediator. And if South Africa Prefers confrontation, Rwanda takes care of the question in that context any day, “he said.
The exchange marks a significant escalation of tensions between the two nations, whose relationship has been fragile for several years.
Meanwhile, Angola called Congolese and Rwandan leaders to urgently meet in Luanda.
The country, which was mediating an unsuccessful attempted talks in December before the M23 launched its last offensive, also called for the resumption of discussions led by the Eastern Community on disorders in eastern Dr. Congo.

The United Kingdom and Germany are among the donor countries which have threatened to withdraw their aid in Rwanda following the M23 offensive.
British Foreign Minister David Lammy said on Wednesday that 32 million pounds Sterling ($ 40 million) in annual bilateral aid were threatened, while Germany canceled aid talks with the country.
