Comcast leaders have apparently achieved something that customers have known and complained for years: the prices of the Internet supplier are not transparent enough and increase too frequently.
This might not have much importance to cable leaders as long as the total number of subscribers has achieved their objectives. But after reporting a net loss of 183,000 high -speed residential customers in the first quarter of 2025, Comcast president Mike Cavanagh said that the company did not win on the market “during a call for results today. The loss of the customer of the first quarter of 2025 was more than three times greater than the net loss in T1 2024.
Although customers often have few viable options for high speed and the availability of alternatives varies considerably depending on the competition, Comcast faces competition from fixed fibers and FAIs.
“In this intensely competitive environment, we do not win on the market in a way proportionate to the strength of the network and the connectivity products that I have just described,” said Cavanagh. “(CEO of the cable division) Dave (Watson) and his team worked hard to understand the reasons for this disconnection and identified two main causes. One is the transparency and the predictability of the prices and the other is the level of ease of doing business with us. The good news is that the two are repairable and that we are already in progress with execution plans to meet these challenges.”
The loss of 183,000-subscriptors lowered Comcast residential Internet subscribers to 29.19 million. Comcast also pointed out a drop in the first quarter of 17,000 large trade strip subscribers, reducing the total of this category to 2.45 million.
The Comcast’s equity price dropped 3.7% today, even if its overall analysts’ expectations beat and national broadband income increased by 1.7% from one year to the next to $ 6.56 billion – a sign that Comcast extracts on average more money from customers. “Analysts peppered comcast from Compets of questions on Thursday concerning his broadband and brand mobile Xfinity, and how the company will pivote the company,” CNBC wrote.
“We simplify our prices”
Cavanagh said Comcast plans to make changes to marketing and operations “with the greatest emergency”. This means that “we simplify our price construction to make our price proposal for consumers in all wide-band segments,” he said.
Comcast last week announced a five -year price guarantee to wide -band customers who register for a new package. Comcast said that customers will get a “single monthly price starting as low as $ 55 per month”, without having to conclude a contract, giving them “freedom and flexibility to cancel at any time without penalty”. The five -year warranty is also delivered with one year of Xfinity Mobile at no cost, said Comcast.
