Lisbon, Portugal – The anti -immigration party of Portugal Chega won another political gain for the extreme right of Europe on Wednesday after it was allocated the second highest seats in Parliament – which means that he will become the chief of parliamentary opposition to the new government.
This breaks the model of the central-right parts of Portugal and the traditional parties of the center-left alternating between directing a government or directing the opposition.
Chega’s progress since May 18 election Coincide with the gains elsewhere by the far right forces. In Europe, including the national rally of France, the brothers of Italy and the alternative for Germany, who are now in the political political current.
Directing the opposition is quite the fulfillment of a former curly part which participated in its first election six years ago, when it won a seat. He recently increased with his hard position against immigration and with the inability of traditional parties to train sustainable governments. The May 18 elections were the third in Portugal in as many years.
Chega, which means “sufficiently”, obtained 60 of the 230 seats in the National Assembly after picking up two other seats on Wednesday against foreign voters in the country of the European Union by 10.6 million people.
“This is a profound change in the Portuguese political system,” said Chega chief Andre Ventura to the supporters after Chega beat the socialists with two seats.
The central-right democratic alliance, led by the Social Democratic Party, captured two other seats to bring its count to 88.
After the elections, the new Prime Minister Luis Montenegro already plans to direct another minority government similar to the one who dropped two months ago in a vote of trust after less than a year in power.
But now, Montenegro and other parties will be confronted with a hugged far right competitor who campaigned under the slogan “saving Portugal” and describes himself as a nationalist party.
