The pilots continue to make special announcements that they fly over the Gulf of America, but the passengers wonder if it is a big political blow

One of the very first acts that President Trump has performed during his first day in power was to sign an executive decree which renamed the Gulf of Mexico in the Gulf of America – an act which, according to Trump, was in the national interest but which was derived on the international scene.

In fact, despite Trump’s claims that the Gulf is an “indelible part of America”, the vast majority of Americans do not support the decision, with various polls showing that the name change remains an unpopular decision.

A survey of the Marquette Law School revealed that 71% of Americans opposed the rename of the Gulf of Mexico, while the controversial decision was only favored by 29%. A second Reuters / Ipsos survey had a similar response, 70% opposing the change and only 25% supporting it.

Despite this lack of support, however, the passengers of the airlines and even the on-board agents have noticed a new trend … An increasing number of pilots cannot help providing updates in half-theft with their routing on the flights crossing the Gulf, giving them the ideal opportunity to appoint the Gulf of America.

The question is whether the pilots really want to hold the passengers informed of the progress of the flight and the road they fly, or do they deliberately make a political declaration?

“The pilot has just told us that we survived the Gulf of America (Unic). I am now concerned about its mental well-being,” noted a recent passenger in the Southwest on the popular Reddit social media platform.

A commentator claiming to be a pilot for the carrier replied: “At Southwest Airlines, we call it the Gulf of America, its official name. Do not fly with us if you don’t like him, liberal. We are a real American airline. ”

On-board agents also shared their own pilot anecdotes making announcements half-voltage in what they believe to be a deliberate attempt to check the Gulf of America.

It seems that the pilots are more on the side of change, while the agents are (like most Americans) opposed to calling it the Gulf of America.

“I have never heard a FA (on-board agent) announce that` `While we fly over (any area), your Wi-Fi can be uneven ”. But this cute little guy on UA1528 TPA (Tampa) in Iah (Houston) simply worked in Reddit.

At the national level, the information system for geological names and geographic names of the United States quickly respected the executive order of Trump and renamed the Gulf in the Gulf of America, although from the aviation point of view, the Gulf denomination agreement is more delicate.

The International Organization for Civil Aviation (OACI) still calls it the Gulf of Mexico, a bit like the rest of the world.

Earlier this month, a captain of the Frontier airlines was photographed carrying a bright red baseball cap with Trump sporting the front while standing at the front of the plane in the middle of passengers.

Gary Leff from the view from the Wing Blog noted the incident as additional proof that American pilots generally tend to “bias conservative”. In an incident in 2021, Southwest opened an internal investigation into a pilot that would have signed an announcement of passengers with the controversial phrase “Let’s Go Brandon”.

A year later, another southwest driver was represented with a politically gifted slogan sticker on his crew bag, which said: “I was liberal. Then I left the house and I got a job. ”
