The official field of the PGA 2025 championship at Quail Hollow was announced.
The land will include 29 major champions, 14 PGA champions, 3 world -renowned golf temple and three captains from Ryder Cup.
Traditionally, the PGA of America invites the top 100 of the official classification of the world golf that are not already on the ground.
Among the players on the field, there are notable players who seemed to receive exemptions in the event, notably Dustin Johnson, Patrick Reed, David Puig, Tom McKibbin and Rickie Fowler.
Reed, currently 51st in OWGR, is not a big surprise because of its world ranking. The former masters champion will however have to maintain or slightly improve his position to guarantee a place in the United States later this summer. (He is already in the Open British.) Reed must be in the Top 60 to qualify for the US Open via OWGR by May 19 or June 9. Reed finished T2 in the 2017 PGA championship, which was the last time that Quail Hollow has organized the tournament.
Johnson was not otherwise exempt. The double major champion is currently 751st in OWGR. He missed the Masters Cup and has a top-five on Liv this season (T5 in Singapore). The 40 -year -old is already on the ground for the US Open and the British Open.
Puig, 107th in OWGR, is a young player with great potential. The former Arizona State Sun Devil plays mainly on Liv but also played Asian Tour and DP World Tour events to win a place for the majors.
McKibbin is another player outside the top 100 to receive an invitation. The Northern Irishman, who has perfected his skills at the Holywood Golf Club, the same club as Rory McILroy, is considered one of the most promising young golfers in the world. McKibbin won a professional event in 2023 on the DP World Tour, the Porsche European Open in Germany. At 20, he became the youngest winner of Ireland since Mcilroy.
Fowler, who finished T5 at Quail Hollow in the 2017 PGA championship, is currently classified 125th in the OWGR. The fans’ favorite has not yet produced a top-10 in 2025 and has not finished in the Top 30 in none of the four major championships last season.
Overall, there are 15 LIV players on the field in addition to John Catlin, who is a Liv reserve player.
