Houston (AP) – A flight from Southwest Airlines had to be evacuated Thursday after a fire fire forced him to return to Houston airport.
The flight left Hobby airport on the road to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, when it was forced to return around 11:15 a.m. due to the fire, according to the Houston fire service.
When the plane landed, the firefighters put out the fire as well as a small grass fire near the track, the fire service said in a statement.
No injury has been reported. The flight crew helped the 134 passengers to evacuate the plane, Southwest Airlines said in a statement.
The passengers left the plane on a taxi route at the airport, the Federal Aviation Administration said in an email.
The cause of the fire has been investigated, the FAA said.
The airline worked to bring all the passengers to their final destination to Mexico.
“We appreciate the professionalism of our flight team in the response to this situation. Nothing is more important for the Southwest than the security of our customers and our employees, ”said Southwest Airlines.
The engine fire occurs while plane trips are under a thorough examination after a series of accidents and misadventures. Federal officials have tried to reassure travelers that the flight is the safest mode of transport, and statistics support it.
