The Nit championship went down to a miracle game – and the agonizing lay -up

If only the NCAA tournament had so much excitement.

The NIT championship match in Indianapolis between UC Irvine and Chattanooga went to the last extension game.

By dragging 85-84 with 2.4 seconds to play in overtime, Devin Tillis of UC Irvine launched a complete pass which was fired by Bent Leuchten. The center of 7 feet 1 inch then fed the ball to a wide jurian Dixon, whose precipitated layup painfully rolled on the rim, giving Chattanooga its first Nit title.

He came after a last dramatic and nervous minute for both teams.

Leuchten went to the free throw line with 31 seconds to play in overtime for a chance in a three -point lead, but he missed the two free throws.

The Chattanooga Keeslar garrison then sank a shot rider from the free throw line with 11 seconds to resume advance.

After Keeslar’s brand, an entrance pass to Leuchten was overthrown and Chattanooga secured the bulk ball before missing two free throws to give the Antisers another chance that would only add to sorrow.

The two programs were playing in their first NIT championship match.

Bonham had 19 points to do with 10 rebounds for Chattanooga. Keeslar obtained his first double-double of the season with 14 points and 10 rebounds, and Huff also had 14 points.

Tillis scored 13 of his 19 points in the first half for UC Irvine. Leuchten finished with 15 points and 11 rebounds.

Bonham sank a half-terrain shot just before the buzzer at halftime to give Chattanooga an advance of 38-37 at the break.

The two teams had a controversial call against them in the last 20 seconds of regulation.

Chattanooga’s honor expelled a leg to shoot a fault and made three free throws with 16.3 seconds to give Chattanooga its first advance, 76-74, because it was 38-37.

Then, Myles Che d’Irvine obtained a defender in the air on a 3 -point and jumped on him before making 2 of the 3 free throws to attach it to 76.
