The start -up yields are expected to increase this season after the NFL has just encouraged the booters not to start the ball in the goals.
A change of rule passed today will identify the ball on the 35 yards line after kicks off in the goal area. Last year, the first season of the “dynamic” kick -off, the touchbacks were spotted on the 30 yards line.
In 2024, about a third of the kicks were returned, most of them entering the goals area for touchbacks. This year, the NFL plans that around two thirds of kicks will be returned, because the teams decide to give their opponents a better position on the ground is not worth starting the ball in the goals.
Kickers who can accurately land the ball just short of the goal area will be more precious, as it will become the favorite approach for most teams. A strong leg that produces a lot of touchbacks will become less precious.
The NFL also deposited another change of kick -off rule, relating to the kicks. This discussion will continue to be studied and will probably be voted in May.
