Mitsubishi will launch a new electric vehicle in North America next summer which is based on the next third generation sheet of Nissan. The new EV, which will be the second in Mitsubishi in the United States after the I-MIV pioneer, is part of the company’s “Momentum 2030” growth plan where it will launch “a new or considerably revised vehicle each year between 2026 and 2030”.
Mitsubishi has not yet given its name to its EV or has provided other technical details, including its expected range from EPA. Like the new sheet, it will use the CMF-EV platform which also underlies the SUV Ariya and is evaluated up to 304 miles on a single load.
In a press release, the CEO of Mitsubishi Motors, Mark Chaffin, said that the company was on an “ascending trajectory”, especially in the United States. Mitsubishi declared an 11% increase in sales from year to year at T1 2025, led by its OUTLANDER SUV which is also available in a rechargeable hybrid version.
Chaffin says that the new Mitsubishi EV will be part of a new range which includes a mixture of internal combustion, rechargeable hybrids and electric vehicles that give customers “the choice of technology that best meets their needs”.
Mitsubishi has not yet announced where the new EV will be built. The company once had a factory in normal, Illinois, which is now owned and operated by Rivian. In order to avoid heavy prices imposed by the Trump administration (currently fixed at 25% on Japan cars and trucks), Mitsubishi could soon find a domestic manufacturing plan.
