The new iPhone 16 Pro screen is said to have 20% higher brightness

Just days after the launch of the M4 iPad Pro featuring what Apple calls “the world’s most advanced display,” a new rumor indicates that the iPad’s Ultra Retina XDR isn’t the only one display innovation the company has up its sleeves this year, with the iPhone 16. Pro is also set to take a leap forward.

20% more nits for the iPhone 16 Pro

Weibo leaker Instant Digital reports that the iPhone 16 Pro will feature a display that reaches a peak brightness of 1,200 nits in typical use (i.e. with SDR content). This would represent a significant 20% increase over the 1,000 nits supported by the iPhone 15 Pro.

When Apple presents the display specifications of its devices, it usually indicates the typical maximum brightness, that is, the brightness of the screen during casual use when HDR content is not displayed. It also has a separate maximum brightness for HDR content.

The iPhone 15 Pro and several previous iPhone generations reached a maximum brightness of 1,000 nits and 1,600 for HDR. According to this rumor, the upcoming iPhone 16 Pro will achieve an even better and brighter resolution of 1,200 nits for all your daily browsing. The phone should maintain the same peak 1,600 nits for HDR content.

One of Instant Digital’s previous reports just came true this week, as they accurately predicted back in March that the new iPad Pro would offer a matte display option. The iPad Pro M4’s nano-textured glass surprised many observers.

Take from 9to5Mac

It’s remarkable that just days after Apple launched its most advanced display ever, we’re hearing about a new iPhone display that will surpass the Ultra Retina XDR in terms of brightness. The iPad Pro M4 maxes out at 1,000 nits in normal use, meaning the iPhone 16 Pro could beat it in a matter of months.
