The nation’s largest children’s hospital will end transgender medical procedures

Texas Children’s Hospital, the nation’s largest children’s hospital, will stop providing transgender medical procedures to children – for the second time.
In a note shared on Twitter, hospital CEO Mark Wallace said the hospital would work with patients and families to “manage the discontinuation of hormone therapies.” The memo also said the hospital would work to connect patients with treatment services outside of Texas.
“The transition we’re about to embark on is going to be extremely heartbreaking, but we’re going to get through this adversity and take these next steps with grace, love and compassion, as we always do,” the CEO said.
The decision comes following the passage of Senate Bill 14, which bans transgender medical treatment for children and will go into effect Sept. 1 if Gov. Greg Abbott (R) signs it.
In March 2022, the hospital announced it would stop providing hormone therapy to children after Governor Abbot called on the state’s child welfare agency to investigate parents who “provide child care.” ‘gender affirmation to their children,’ reported the Texas Tribune.
However, documents obtained by Christopher F. Rufo of the Manhattan Institute showed that the hospital secretly continued to provide gender transition services, including the implantation of puberty blockers.
In his report, Rufo said that Harvard-trained surgeon Dr. Kristy Rialon actually performed surgery on an “11-year-old female-to-male transgender person” three days after the hospital announced he was would stop providing “gender affirmations”. care:
Records indicate that Rialon inserted and removed “a non-biodegradable drug delivery implant[s]for “gender dysphoria in a pediatric patient[s]throughout 2022 and 2023, including an intervention on an 11-year-old “female-to-male transgender person” listed on file for three days after the hospital announced it had stopped providing “care of gender affirmation.
A whistleblower from the hospital says “gender-affirming” care is very lucrative. “It’s between $70,000 and $80,000 per child if they go all the way – all the pharmacological drugs, all these companies making millions of dollars,” the whistleblower told Rufo.
Another point raised by the whistleblower is that it is easy for children to access the diagnostic criteria for gender identity dysphoria, which are established by the World Professional Association for Transgender Health, online:
These kids are trained on exactly what to say via Reddit and all these sites. They know exactly the verbiage to use. They just have to establish care with Dr. Roberts, he has a conversation with them, and he basically puts them on puberty blockers, almost immediately.
The whistleblower told Rufo that Dr Richard Ogden, who manages patients aged 12 to 17 with gender dysphoria, will do “everything he can to make sure they are happy, from less outwardly happy, because I am absolutely certain that they are not inwardly happy.
Last week, Attorney General Ken Paxton launched an investigation into Texas Children’s Hospital. The goal is to see if they “actively engage in illegal behavior and perform gender transition procedures on children.” He requested 25 different types of documents relating to the hospital’s gender-affirming care.
