Mark Allen, whose six victories as Ironman world champion earned him the nickname “World’s Fittest Man” of Outside magazine, will give the opening speech at the start of the UC San Diego campus on June 14.
Allen, 67, obtained a baccalaureate in biology at the UCSD in 1980 and continued a long career as a triathlete, a period during which he won the Olympic world championships in Avignon, France.
He is currently a triathlon and performance coach and the author of books such as “the art of competition”.
The University says that Allen will be presented with the UC San Diego medal for his leadership and his commitment to serve others.
