A longtime resident takes King 5 after roadblocks for an overview of the undergoing man hunt.
Leavenworth, Washington – In rugged buttresses near Leavenworth, a calm mountain community is now the epicenter of manhunt for Travis Decker, a former army ranger suspected of having killed his three daughters.
Dean Summers, a long -standing resident and land keeper for several cabins in the region, brought King 5 after the roadblocks on Friday to check the properties he manages, including the house of his parents.
“We are heading for my parents’ house,” said Summers, sailing on his sedan on the winding mountain road. “There are caves hidden on the side of the hill – hundreds more along the whole hill here.”
The strongly wooded terrain has been invaded by armed research teams and low -altitude helicopters in recent days, transforming the serene frame into a tension zone.
The authorities urged the cabin owners and the residents along Icicle Road to lock their doors, keep the lights on at night and stay alert.
“I don’t feel like my parents are safe,” said Summers. “I don’t think the neighbors are really safe.”
He went door to door, trying to encourage other residents to take the warnings seriously. But few wanted to speak.
“They are so used to any crime that their car is seated there, their bike is seated there,” he said, pointing to a neighboring cabin. “It is so sure here that they do not contemplate the danger.”
The County Sheriff’s Bureau of Chelan continues to urge vigilance while manhunt takes place on distant and difficult terrain.
The authorities did not say if Decker remains in the region, but the residents are invited to stay inside, to lock the windows and the doors and to report any suspicious activity to the police.
