The American Coast Guard saved a man floating in a ulterior offering kilometers off the coast of southern California on Saturday evening, but a dog who was with him could not be found.
The couple had apparently disappeared a few hours earlier in a 34 -foot sailboat in the canal between Catalina island and the continent, according to a press release from the Coast Guard.
Someone on the sailboat alerted the coastal guard of their disappearance around 8 p.m.
A coastal guard boat has been launched from Los Angeles, and a second ship, a cutter apparently already in the region, has been diverted to help research. Airline support was summoned by a resort of the San Diego Coast Guard, according to the press release.
A helicopter spotted the canoe about 1,400 meters from the sailboat and about 18 miles east of Catalina. The person suffered from “light hypothermia but not from major medical concerns”, according to coastal guard officials.
But the dog could not be located and is still missing, according to the specialist in public affairs of the Coast Guard Richard Uranga.
