Cedar Rapids, Iowa – Emaarion Boyd became the first player in the minor league in at least 20 years to steal six bases in a match without getting the feat for High -A Beit (Wisconsin) against Cedar Rapids.
Boyd, beating the ninth and playing at the center of victory 10-0 Wednesday evening, reached the choice of a defender field, a walk and a blow by pitch. He stole the second and third base each time.
He walked again with any in the ninth round but could no longer steal bases because a runner was in front of him.
“I thought it would be even crazier if I have eight,” Boyd told the Associated Press on Thursday. “I would have liked to be able to have two more. It would have been really crazy then.”
Boyd was a choice of 11th round by the Philadelphia Phillies during the amateur draft of the major league of the major in 2022. He was part of a December business for the left -handed launcher Jesus Luzardo who sent Boyd to the Marlins of Miami.
The 21-year-old has 98 interceptions in 203 minor league games, with 83 in 187 games in the 2023 and 2024 seasons in Single-A Clearwater and High-A Jersey Shore.
“I really try to be better than the launcher and the receiver when I get on the basis and I receive a fairly good or perfect leap,” he said, “then I use my talent given by God.”
According to MLB.com, no minor league player since at least 2005 had stolen six bases without getting. Boyd also stole six bases in a match for Clearwater in 2023, but he had a blow.
No player has stolen six bases without success in a major league match for at least 1901.
