London – A 21 -year -old man was arrested early Tuesday as part of a series of presumed incendiary attacks after fires broke out in properties related to a “high -level figure,” said London metropolitan police. The CBS News BBC News partner network said high -level figure is British Prime Minister Keir Starmer.
The man detained on Tuesday is held suspected of criminal fire with the intention of endangering life, police said.
Early Monday morning, firefighters were called to a shot at the private starmer residence in northern London. Starmer currently does not live there because he resides in the British Prime Minister’s official residence at 10 Downing Street, in the center of the city.

The firefighters also responded to a small fire on Sunday early at the front of a nearby building linked to Starmer. One person was escorted in safety and treated for smoke inhalation, but no one was injured in the fire, said London Fire-Brigade.
A third fire in a car was reported on Thursday last week in the same street as the starmer’s private residence, which is also the subject of an investigation and would eventually be linked to the man who was detained on Tuesday, police announced.
“As a precaution and due to the property with previous links with a high-level public figure, officers of the MET counter-terrorism command are investigating this fire,” the police said. “The three fires are treated as suspects at the moment, and investigations are in progress.”

Starmer thanked the emergency services for their work on Monday, but refused to provide additional information on whom someone was inside his private residence when the fire was triggered.
