A man was arrested after the Bournemouth player Antoine Semenyo, had been abused racily during the Premier League opening match in Anfield.
Friday’s match with current Champions Liverpool was briefly interrupted in the 29th minute after Semenyo reported it to the referee.
Merseyside police said that a 47 -year -old man from Liverpool had been identified and withdrawn from the Anfield stadium following the report.
He was arrested on Saturday, suspected of an offense to racially aggravated public order and was arrested for interrogation.
The match resumed four minutes after the abuse reported and Semenyo scored twice for Bournemouth, who lost 4-2 against Liverpool.
Bournemouth captain Adam Smith later told Sky Sports: “This shows what kind of man he should point out to the referee and continue.
“Liverpool players were very favorable to Ant and the rest of the team.”
Liverpool manager Arne Slot said that the incident “takes away the brilliance (the game) because our fans were incredible, especially with tributes to Diogo”.
In a statement, the Premier League said it would also investigate.
The football association has added: “The incidents of this nature have no place in our game, and we will work closely with match officials, clubs and competent authorities to establish the facts and guarantee that the appropriate action is taken.”
The anti-discrimination body said that he said they “stabilized with Antoine and cannot praise him enough for his courage to call this after such a painful episode before continuing to score twice”.
“Anthony Taylor and his arbitration team also deserve the merit of having acted quickly and decisively.”
