While almost three -quarters (73%) said they thought that racism was an “important problem”, they were divided on the question of whether immigration had changed the communities for the best, because 51% agreed with the declaration against 32% which did not agree.
“Young people are undoubtedly concerned about the future of the United Kingdom and they are concerned about the state of democracy,” said Elisabeth Loose, responsible for research and external commitment to the John Smith Center, who led the investigation.
She added: “As for young people to want politics, the answer is a more open and honest political culture that provides answers to their basic needs.”
More than a third of those questioned (36%) said they wanted to see “more open and honest” politicians, while 27% wanted to see more young people in management positions. The same percentage said they wanted the government to focus on the issues that were for them.
According to Ipsos analysis last July, by only 37% of 18 to 24 years, against 47% in 2019. The Labor Party promised to reduce the voting age by 18 to 16 years in its manifesto, but has not yet advanced the legislation to arrive there.
