Placing in the role gave Rickards an overview of the challenges facing women at the beginning of the 20th century in the United States. Wrestlers of that time, she said, “showed that you could be feminine and strong. It was really liberating at the time for women and looked scary for men.”
Burke organized the National Wrestling Alliance women’s world championship for almost 20 years. But she fought with demons of another kind on the inner forehead.
While raising her son as a single mother in Kansas and scratching the advice of the era of depression as a waitress, Burke met Billy Wolfe, played by Josh Lucas. He became her husband and manager.

As he opened the way to Mildred to enter the professional struggle, Wolfe also took a large part of his income, cheated on him and violently beaten him.
“When Mildred Mildred, the celebrity, picked up … Billy had the impression that he was falling in the shadows,” said Rickards. “The kind of decomposition of their relationship was that Billy does not accept change, being so caught up in his own inferiority and not having the right exit for himself and removing it in an evil and horrible way.”
