Under the ceasefire agreement, the Lebanese army announced on January 6 that it had deployed to the border town of Naqoura, while the IDF withdrew from the locality. Israeli forces continue to carry out operations in southern Lebanon.
While the ceasefire came into force on November 27, the Israeli army began its withdrawal from the neighboring town of Naqoura, leaving its Lebanese counterpart to establish itself there.
“Army units were stationed around the city of Naqoura – Tire and began to deploy there in coordination with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon – UNIFIL,” the Lebanese army said in a message posted on their X account on January 6, adding that this deployment took place “in parallel with the withdrawal of the Israeli enemy from the city.”
“The deployment will be completed during the next phase and the units concerned will conduct a technical survey of the city with the aim of removing unexploded ordnance,” the troop also specified.
This Lebanese deployment coincided with the third meeting of the committee responsible for overseeing the ceasefire between Hezbollah and Israel, chaired by American envoy Amos Hochstein, at the headquarters of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) in Naqoura.
However, the Israeli army still prohibits access to an entire strip of Lebanese territory in the south of the country, along the border, declaring that it continues to operate there. A ban notice was again published on X on January 7 by the Arabic-speaking spokesperson for the Israeli army, Avichay Adraee.
The IDF continues to operate in the south of the Cedars country. The Israeli army arrested several Lebanese residents going to their villages, blew up several houses and buildings and recently carried out “a vast bombing operation” on the outskirts of the town of Aïtaroun, the daily reported. The Orient-The Day. Israeli drones also flew over the surroundings of the town of Saida, several dozen kilometers from the border with the Jewish state, according to the same source.
According to the terms of the ceasefire agreement, the Israeli army must completely withdraw from southern Lebanon after 60 days. Hezbollah must give way to the Lebanese army in the northern areas of the Litani River.
