The Landerneau Smurfs not numerous enough for the world record? [Photos] – Brittany

On March 7, 2020, just before the world bubbled up in anguish from a terrifying virus, 3,549 people of all ages (and no covids a posteriori) disguised in the strict dress code of Smurf, Papa Smurf or Smurfette met in Landerneau. World record pulverized and shattering entry into the prestigious Guinness book, it was believed then. It was without counting on a procedure more finicky than the content of an Achille Talon speech bubble to which the organizers of the challenge had not completely responded. A video was missing. Landern’s performance was therefore not approved.

A careful count of the Smurfs

Never mind. The volunteers of the Starry Moon Carnival decided to try the adventure again and this Saturday, March 25, 2023, a second blue tide poured into the parking lot of Saint-Ernel, on the banks of the Élorn. Will the record of 2,763 Smurfs, held since 2019 by the German town of Lauchtringen, be officially beaten? This Saturday the careful count is proving to be laborious and will only be completed on Sunday.

The inhabitants of the fourth city of Finistère, their neighbors and people from a little further afield have already marked the occasion with dignity. Hilarious to see themselves made up like this and swigs of sarsaparilla potion (or something liquid in any case) helping, the happy Smurfs naturally vaccinated against the spread of grumpy Smurfs irritated by the gray sky, its winds and its spitting.

In heel (not Achille), the Smurfettes (model also chosen by men) took station at the bowl like the claw of the cat Azraël. Given the weather conditions, the organizers had taken care to open the shelter of the halle Saint-Ernel to wait in a nice atmosphere until the start of the counting and to avoid the participants the too faded blue.

The first in the rain!

Arranged in packs of 50 individuals in the squares of the Saint-Ernel car park, the Smurfs in perfect outfits kept the pose for five minutes, the time of a recording by the judge commissioned by Guinness, Anouk De Timary. The latter would then analyze all the images in its possession. A process that takes time. The official proclamation will not take place before 11 a.m. this Sunday.

But despite the enthusiasm, this second episode at 11,400 € (cost of the file and the arrival of the official judges to finally appear in the Guinness Book of Records, in 2024) may still be just in participation. Maybe a hundred Smurfs will be missing. Will we have to work on a third adventure? “At worst, we will be the vice-world champions of the Smurfs. And the first in the rain! », smiled Pascal Soun, the co-president of the association organizing this event.
