The judge extends the order to protect Harvard by Trump Block to the registration of international students | Trump administration

An American federal judge will issue an injunction blocking the Trump administrationefforts to prevent Harvard University registration of international students.

The university was in short seeking to extend a temporary prescription blocking the Trump administration Revocation of school law to welcome international students. The judge, Allison Burroughs, had published an emergency block last week after the administration suddenly announced that it would cancel Harvard’s ability to host international students – the most recent and severe climbing of the administration battle against higher education establishments.

While the graduation ceremonies were underway on the campus, the lawyers of the university supported before the Boston Federal Court that the revocation announced by the government violates last week the freedom of expression of the American Constitution and the rights of the regular procedure as well as the procedural law regulating the actions of the government.

In a crowded courtroom with several international students present, Burroughs said that she wanted to “keep the status quo” while the affair passes before the courts.

In Documents On Wednesday, the director of immigration services at the University’s international office said that the administration’s announcement caused a “fear, concern and deep confusion” among teachers and students.

“Many international students and academics report significant emotional distress that affects their mental health and makes it difficult to focus on their studies,” she wrote. “Some are afraid of attending their own graduation ceremonies this week for fear that certain immigration measures be taken against them.”

Thursday, shortly before the hearing, the Ministry of Homeland Security officially notified Harvard to withdraw university certification as part of the Federal Program for Students and Exchange Visitors (SEVP), the system that allows universities to register non -American students. But this decision, which gave the university 30 days to contest the revocation through an administrative process, said that it was behind the immediate revocation that the administration announced last week.

In a statementThe head of the department, Kristi Noem, doubled her allegations against Harvard, whom she accused of “pro-terrorist conduct”, “encouraging and authorizing anti-American and anti-American violence” and “coordination with the leaders of the Chinese Communist Party on the training that has undermined American national security”.

“Harvard’s refusal to comply with SEVP surveillance was the last proof that it disdains the American people and has the benefits of taxpayers,” added Noem.

If it is authorized to stand, the action of the administration against Harvard would affect a quarter of the university’s population: around 5,000 current students, as well as 2,000 recent graduates registered with an optional practical training, a post-diploma work program.

Harvard maintains that the administration’s decision is reprisals for the University’s refusal to respect a series of demands that are too wide made by the Trump administration which would seriously undermine the university independence. The administration had asked Harvard to hand over information on his international students, including discipline files as well as students addresses, contact details and details on their courses. He announced the revocations after declaring that the university had not been in conformity.

In April, the University became the first to continue the administration on billions of research cuts funded by the federal government – triggering a confrontation with the White House, which announced earlier this week that it would cancel all the remaining government contracts with the university. In total, the administration has reduced or frozen about $ 3 billion in federal subsidies and contracts with Harvard.

These cups have already turned crucial medical and scientific research initiatives, but the latest attack on international students had spread panic among thousands of current and incoming international students – with a lot of search for last minute transfers to other universities, canceling summer travel plans for fear of not being able to return or reconsider plans to study the United States. Some foreign universities have also seized the crisis, seeking to recruit Harvard students far from the United States.

“International students and academics are formidable assets that contribute to American pre -eminence in innovation, research and economic strength,” said Fanta AW, Executive Director and CEO of NAFSA, the association of International Educators. “It is to undermine their ability to study here.
