A federal judge prevented the Elon Musk Government Department (DOGE) from accessing the personal financial data of millions of Americans in the files of the Treasury Department, according to court documents.
American district judge Paul A. Engelmayer published a preliminary injunction on Saturday to prohibit access, ordering Musk and his team to immediately destroy any copy of the files.
This decision comes after 19 state -of -the -art prosecutors continued the Trump administration after Doge, a cost reduction initiative led by Musk, had access to the files.
They asserted access to Musk, a “special government employee”, and Doge, which is not an official government department, violated the federal law.
There was no immediate comment from the White House, President Donald Trump or musk.
On Friday, the prosecutor general of the Democratic State continued Trump, the Treasury Department and the Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent on Friday.
Engelmayer’s order, issued early on Saturday, said states “should face irreparable damage” without immediate relief.
“It is both because of the risk that the new policy presents the disclosure of sensitive and confidential information and the increased risk that the systems in question are more vulnerable than before hacking,” said order.
The order prevents accused from granting access to the Treasury Department files containing personally identifiable or confidential information to special government employees, people appointed politicians and other employees outside the department.
The injunction prevents anyone from accessing files other than civil servants who need to do so for their work at the Bureau of Tax Services and who have made checks of the history.
The judge also ordered anyone among the limited people to immediately destroy copies of the files.
The conditions will remain in place until the next court hearing on February 14.
Tech Titan and Billionaire Musk were strongly involved in upheavals during the second term of Trump, with Doge leading major cuts to The American Agency for International Development (USAID)which distributes billions of dollars in world -scale aid.
