The Met Gala is not a place for subtlety, as evidenced by the often complicated and always glamorous outfits that the celebrities are enlisting. Example? The Indian billionaire Isha Ambani, who wore an absolutely massive diamond necklace with this year’s festivities which would have presented 89 diamonds, totaling 481.42 carats. The room took around 15,000 hours to create.

Ambani attributed to his mother to have lent him the play in a video published on Instagram by the jeweler based in New York Julia Chafe. Fans were quick to underline the resemblance of the necklace with that carried by Anne Hathaway in the action film Ocean 8. This necklace, of course, was inspired by the one that Cartier made for the Maharaja of Nawanaghar in 1931, which featured the diamond “Queen of Holland”. Journalist Sam Kaur later confirmed that Ambani’s play paid tribute to the 1931 original on Instagram.
The other Ambani jewelry included rings loaned by Tiffany & Co., as well as other jewels, which were sewn in the course of his outfit.

Ambani was not the only one to afflict diamonds on the red carpet this year, of course. Rihanna wore a Cartier Watch and Daading and Diamonds White 18 Carats collar, plus a 1925 Cartier Collection watch spindle. His look inspired by Dandy came thanks to Marc Jacobs.

Characteristically, the singer “Umbrella” used the Met Gala to announce her third pregnancy with her partner A $ AP Rocky. Recalling her second pregnancy was revealed when Rihanna played Super Bowl 2023. If nothing else, the duo likes to make a statement – and what better place to do so on the Met steps?
