The longtime astronaut of NASA, Don Pettit, who ventured into space four times, is expected to return to earth on Saturday evening from the international space station. Pettit will be 70 years old on Sunday.
The scientist invented the first patented object in space – called the hair drink, the space cup or the Zero -G cup, which facilitates the consumption of drinks in the absence of gravity, and he is also a famous astrophotograph known to capture unique views of the cosmos.
“One of the things that I like to do with my astrophotography is to have a different composition and perspective from that centered on the earth, generally showing an earth horizon with the atmosphere on the edge, the member, then a kind of astronomy, astrophotography, in relation to that,” said petit from the space station during an astrophotography interview with Degrasse.
Petit said that his photograph concerned the prospect of being in orbit.
“The earth is incredibly beautiful when your feet are firmly planted on the ground, and it is beautiful in space,” said Pettit. “And it is difficult to say what is more beautiful. I think it is because space is a unique opportunity that we seek to focus on the beauty of being in orbit. If we had people who lived all their lives in orbit, when they go down on earth, they would probably think that it was the most beautiful prospect they have ever seen.”
Pettit takes his photos from the dome of the space station, a favorite of the crew members because of its seven windows which neglect the earth.
Here are some of his most unforgettable views of what it is to live in the space he has captured in the past seven months.
