A high -end hotel in the County of San Diego prohibits children from spending the night, saying that it plans to become a “complex reserved for adults”.
The Alila Marea Beach Resort in Encinitas explained that the change, which took effect in February, was designed to provide more relaxing conditions for people over 18 years of age.
“This transition allows us to provide a serene and quiet environment suitable for adult travelers looking for relaxation, exploration and a peaceful stay near the beach,” the hotel wrote in a statement on its website.
The movement reflects other Alila hotels, including the location of Napa Valley, which boasts that it is a “sanctuary” for adults.
Children can always come to the hotel for events such as weddings but are not allowed to spend the night.
“We are delighted to present new programs specially designed for the desire for relaxation, connection and adventure of our adult customers,” said the director general of the incinitas station, Richard Sorensen, in a press release at the Coast News Group, who first reported the change.
But lawyer Chris DOLAN told SFGATE that the rules could retain a state law, Civil Code 51, which prohibits discrimination in California companies.
“Anyone who provides public housing, engaging in a contract, must do so without effective discrimination, and this would include hotel establishments,” Dolan told SFGATE. “Innkeepers are therefore not allowed to have a restriction against children in the premises.”
Hyatt, the parent company of the complex, did not immediately respond to a request for comments.
