- Hermès said Thursday in an analyst call that it would increase prices in the United States.
- Price increases are due to Trump prices, which, according to the brand, have not yet affected them.
- The Birkin bag, a must for Hermès, already sells more than $ 10,000.
Luxury retailer Hermès announced Thursday that it increases prices in the United States to compensate for the effect of President Donald Trump’s prices.
Eric du Halgouët, executive vice-president of the company’s finance, told analysts on the appeal that Hermès had not yet been affected by prices, but this would increase American prices in May to pay the way in which taxes could have an impact on growth.
“The increase in prices we are going to implement will be just for the United States. Since it aims to compensate for the increase in prices, this only applies to the American market,” said Halgouët during the call.
Du Halgouët said that the company planned to hire 1,000 to 1,500 additional people, but that it will remain cautious about the impact of “geopolitical changes” in the financial markets. He also said that Hermès increased prices in the United States and Europe by 6% at the start of 2025.
Hermès is intended for ultra richness – even the cheapest versions of its brand Birkin bags currently cost more than $ 10,000. It has maintained strong growth in a difficult environment for the luxury sector and recently exceeded its LVMH rival as the most precious luxury company.
The French company declared a slowdown in sales in the first quarter – it increased by 7.2% against 18% in the previous quarter. He declared a turnover in the first quarter of 4.1 billion euros and growth in all geographic areas, according to a press release.
Hermès was taken in a controversy fueled by Tiktok earlier this month, when a user has published a video now deleted saying that 80% of luxury bags are made in China.
The company does not make bags in China and most of its production takes place in France, according to its website. Since Trump issued a 90 -day break on reciprocal prices, France has faced a 10%coverage tax.
The representatives of Hermès did not respond to the request for comments from Business Insider.
