The heaviest precipitation This winter forecast for the County of San Diego

A new, more powerful storm is heading for the County of San Diego this week and has the potential to bring several inches of rain and sudden floods to communities in the region.

The storm should start on Wednesday morning and stay on Friday, with the strongest precipitation over the last two days, Stefanie Sullivan, a meteorologist at the National Weather Service on Monday.

The storm arriving in the county of North last week, but largely missed the communities of the County South, brought two tenths of a thumb to half a pump of rain. The region can expect so much rain on Wednesday this week, said Sullivan.

Two inches of precipitation are expected in the southern and northern regions of the county, as in San Diego, Oceanside and Fallbrook, while the mountain communities of the county of East, like Palomar Mountain, could see between 3 and 4 inches.

Before these recent storms, the region experienced months of dry conditions and fire watches. Since January 1, there have been average precipitation of 0.38 inches in the county and about half a-hole since October 1, the official start of the rainy season.

“The average total haste is around 5.5 inches, so there are still 5 inches below normal,” said Sullivan. “It will certainly be the strongest precipitation that we have had so far this winter.”

A flood watch warning is in effect for most of the county areas, as well as dozens of other communities in southern California, with precipitation rates on Thursday and Friday exceeding half a-hole per hour, have declared officials.

Excessive runoff can lead to floods of rivers, streams, rivers and other low locations and prone to floods, causing delays in traffic, blocked intersections and dangerous driving conditions, said those responsible for NWS.

“Slow down, use your headlights and try to avoid driving in flood waters,” said Sullivan.

In anticipation of heavy rains, the county and CAL fires offer free sandbags to residents and businesses in areas not formed in society.

“The rain can cause floods and erosion, in particular in areas that are not covered by plants, landscaping, grass and trees,” counts in a press release said in a press release press. “Rain runoff can sweep the topsoil, mud, plant material and outlaw and downstream debris where it can damage houses, obstruct sandstones and storm drains, and floods and damage. »»

The residents were invited to dismiss in advance, which firefighters in communities not formed in society offered free bags and / or sand to residents and remember to bring their own shovels to fill bags.

County officials warned the drivers, advising them to disintegrate their windows and try to drive in the middle tracks to avoid water that is in the outdoor tracks. They also advised drivers to leave about 15 minutes to get to their destination.
