Geelong’s superstar, Bailey Smith, delivered two great performances on Saturday evening, the midfielder finding a moment to make a return to a row fan when he played in the defeat of his team against the Lions.
The Cats continued at Gabba, up 32 points during a wet night before Brisbane scored seven goals in their two period to win 10.10 (70) at 9.7 (61).
Smith, who came back from a calf of veal, was among the best on the field in first half, but made him fans of Brisbane.
A vocal singer targeted the famous Smith mule and the football star did not take a while to answer, by answering “at least I have hair” in a moment another fan captured in video.
The defeat followed a defeat upset in seven points against St Kilda six days earlier, but coach Chris Scott insists that his team is “ miles ” to panic about their start to season 1-2.
“Large parts of the game we have under control, so it’s very boring that we let him slip,” said Scott.
Geelong Bailey Smith’s superstar is one of the most in mind at AFL at the moment
“But if you have losses at the start of the season and think …” We are so far “… We are miles from this space.
“You are trying to wait impatiently. There were so many years when we found ourselves in a fairly good position and you look back and think that “this game will really hurt us” and in the end it did not do it.
“You will have many opportunities to feel sorry for yourself and let it worse, but you just have to hang on a little.”
Scott was very impressed by Smith’s performance after the former Bulldogs star missed their previous match against St Kilda with a calf injury.
“He will really help us … He has already made a difference,” said Scott.
Although frustrated by a series of “critical errors”, Scott turned to the defensive efforts of the Irishman Oisin Mullin on Charlie Cameron and the 19 -year -old key defender Connor O’Sullivan as clear advantages.
“We have young guys who can come to improve us quickly, what we need,” he said.
“If we do not find a way to improve, the competition is quite disturbing.”
Smith missed all the 2024 season when he recovered from a knee injury in his former club, the Western Bulldogs
Defender Tom Stewart was appointed to play despite a knee injury last week, before being replaced shortly before the first rebound on Saturday.
Known that he will play next week against Melbourne, Scott said that they had given Stewart as long as possible to prove his physical form and that ‘if he was just on the way yesterday when we went on the plane, we would not have brought him’.
